Nottingham Print & Publishing Fair is an annual event bringing together small press publishers, zine-makers, printmakers, and papercraft artists.
Nottingham Print & Publishing Fair 2019
Saturday 28th September 11am-5pm at City Arts & The Carousel on Hockley Lane, NG1 1FH
NPPF 2019 will be the event’s third year with a range of creative workshops, talks and stalls for all ages. It will join together two community arts spaces just a stone’s throw from each other, City Arts and The Carousel print space and artist studios. NPPF aims to bring together audiences for book fairs, print fairs and zine fairs to create an eclectic range of art prints, books for adults and children, comics, zines, magazines, stationery, cards and gifts.
Workshops and events will take place across the two venues in collaboration with Dizzy Ink, Nottingham Writers’ Studio and a selection of local artists and writers. There will be a cafe bar in The Carousel serving a range of drinks and refreshments. The fair will be open from 11am til 5pm at both venues. It’s free entry to the fair and performances but workshops are ticketed, see below for individual pricing and details.
Introduction to Lino Printing with Tory Hayward
11.30am – 2pm at City Arts £25pp – Suitable for adults only due to use of sharp tools
In this session, participants will have the chance to get to grips with a set of lino tools to produce experimental cuts, then design an image which you will carve into a piece of vinyl lino and create a beautiful image to print. You will then print your own greetings cards and art print using a traditional Japanese hand-printing tool called a baren.
Kids Papercrafting workshop with Sarah from Print & Ink
2.30pm til 4pm at City Arts £8pp early bird tickets/£11 on the day – suitable for age 5+ (with adult supervision)
This is a fun afternoon for kids and adults. We will be using simple Kirigami techniques to create fun, bright pop up cards. You will make 2 types of pop-up card and learn techniques you can use at home. Advance booking recommended.
Portrait of Notts Riso Print Workshop with Dizzy Ink & Nottingham Writers’ Studio
12pm til 3pm at The Carousel (NWS Room) £5pp, all ages
Use collage and writing prompts to create a riso print image. The results of this workshop will be compiled into a collaborative zine! Suitable for all ages but ideally 5+ to get the most out of it.
To learn more about riso printing (a kind of digital screen printing) see Dizzy Ink’s website here.
Drop-in workshop, email email@example.com with any questions.
Scurry & Peck’s Bookbinding Club
12 – 2.30 at The Carousel (side room), £35pp
Time and space for you to sit and craft a practical pocket journal from its component parts then add your own creative flourishes.
Booking essential, limited spots.
Talks & Performances
We will have a range of spoken word prose and poetry performers plus talks on DIY printing and publishing.
3pm til 5pm at The Carousel (NWS Room)
Bees Make Honey (us) with a selection of our books and zines plus other publications from Wordsmith HQ & Mother’s Milk Books
Stephen Thomas & Big White Shed
Both venues are based on the ground floor with wheelchair access and disabled toilet facilities.
City Arts and The Carousel are located on Hockley Lane (labelled on maps as just ‘Hockley’ confusingly) just down the hill from the Lace Market and Hockley, just before you reach Sneinton Market opposite Bunker’s Hill pub. The closest parking is Nottingham Arena Car Park on Brook Street, where there is also some cheaper on-street parking. Lace Market Tram Stop is 5 minutes walk from the venues and many bus routes stop on Parliament Street close by. Nottingham Train Station is 15 minutes walk away, or you can hop on the tram for one stop.
